Academics

By pairing specialized academic teams with a heart-centered homeroom model, Victor Intermediate School creates a nurturing environment where students confidently bridge the gap between elementary wonder and middle school independence. At Victor Intermediate School, the transition from foundational learning to independent discovery is guided by a purposeful approach. Students in 4th grade transition to the VIS in a single classroom model. In Grades 5 and 6, students have a teacher for Humanities (ELA and Social Studies) and STEM (Science and Mathematics. This departmentalized approach allows for a more integrated curriculum where literacy informs history and inquiry drives mathematics. This structure prepares students for the academic rigor of secondary school while maintaining the supportive environment of an elementary setting.

The school day is anchored by a dedicated morning homeroom, which is a practice that places social-emotional well-being at the forefront of the educational experience. By starting each day with community building and skill development exercises, VIS ensures that every child feels a sense of belonging and security. This human-first philosophy creates a stable foundation that allows students to feel confident as they navigate the complexities of their pre-teen years.

Beyond the core classroom, VIS serves as a vibrant hub for creative and intellectual exploration. Students are encouraged to find their voice through robust band, orchestra, and choral programs starting as early as 4th grade. Additionally, the VCS Inquiry Programs and Library Media Center offer endless avenues for curiosity. Whether through hands-on STEM projects or a diverse array of extracurricular clubs, the school provides a rich and multi-dimensional landscape where students can identify their passions and thrive.
